PRINTER BASICS
Now let's take a look at some printer basics because obviously you're going to get some printer questions on the exam. Let's start off thinking about something here. What happened to paperless? They were telling us just a few years ago, that we were going to go these paperless offices, paperless worlds, and I don't know about your desk or your office, but I have more paper now than I ever had. We certainly have the capability to go paperless, but very, very few offices and organizations have actually kind of mastered the guts to go totally completely paperless. But anyway, there are three types of printers that you need to be aware of on this exam, and let's just take a look at these.
First of all, the laser printer, the inkjet, and the matrix. Now in a separate section, I will drill in to each of these, just a little deeper to give you the main characteristics that you need to be aware of for the exam. But if you've ever used a laser, you're going to be very familiar with it. I would recommend it that you do just a little more in depth reading on each one of these, and I just mean just a few minutes out on Google maybe, and look through some of these things. Just make sure you're comfortable with these. If you've used Inkjets a lot, and you haven't used lasers a lot, then just go read about them, just a little, and you'll know what you need to know. In this course, I'm going to talk about the laser printing steps that A+ exams love to ask you about. It's fascinating stuff too by the way. But we'll drill into these, but again, you're not going to hurt yourself for the exam, and especially for the real world out there, to read up just a little bit, and know more about each one of these types. Now there are two paper feeding types or methods, that are out there in the real world, that you could see questions about, or parts of this terminology used in your questions, and it could confuse you on the exam, so I want you to know about those. The first one is continuous form feed paper feeding . This is becoming more and more rare in most office situations, however, if you're in like medical, or insurance industries, or anything that's a lot of, still paper formed based, you will see continuous form feed printers out there still. This is where your printer paper was in a long continuous sheet, and it was either eight and a half inches wide or fourteen inches wide. You bought it in a box, and you set the box under the printer, and there are holes alongside the side of the paper, on both sides, and these are made to fit over sprockets that are built into the printer, and so when you load the printer with paper,
